KÙPELE CENTRAL

16mm Film, color, Duration: 4 Min. 36 Sec, optical sound

The old swimming pool is a place of the past, a space for ghosts. Like conjured spectres, the participants in a fictitious, retroactive tournament, dancing, claim their place in the filmic modification of the space: a training pool, long since drained. The choreography is austere. Bodies and images move along the parallel path of a retroactive exploration, a reconstruction through the fictitious. Like a distant echo, a garish shadow of reality, the sequence of the probable is offered as an alternative to the decree of prescribed memory. A piece of found mail, a greeting from a past in need of critical interrogation, generates a deeply present-day approach. Materials and materiality are stripped of all masks and veils. Rather, the question of the connotation-rich fusion of composition and fate pervades the film, which in itself is abundant with tenacious energy and concentrated, strategic elegance.
