In July the Windhund set sail for East Africa where another encounter with the Zanzibari Zumari duo Sekembuke & Siga took place. The tour kicked off with a concert at Mtoni Palace, the birth place of Princess Salme.
A four day workshop at Dhow Countries Music Academy (DCMA) followed where the Austrian musicians encountered more Zanzibari musicians including the legendary Bi Kidude.
Before heading to the mainland the musicians played at the Zanzibar International Film Festival (ZIFF), just ahead of the screening of the World Cup final. Sekembuke & Siga blew their zumari horns from the massive walls of the Old Fort with the Windhund joining in from the stage.
At TaSUBa – the Institute for Arts and Culture Bagamoyo the musicians found an attentive audience that was quite astonished by this unusual encounter of musicians.
Likewise in Dar es Salaam at the CCBRT mobile outreach in Temeke the audience was quite amazed by this interplay and the zumari horns that they had probably never seen before.
