PARADE bringt den öffentlichen Stadtraum zum Klingen. „Gehende Musik” aus allen Himmelsrichtungen mischt den Linzer Stadtrand auf und verleiht ihm neue Sinne. Die Begegnung verschiedener Klangwelten und die Resonanz des Stadtviertels versprechen eine völlig neue Hörerfahrung. PARADE ist experimentelle Tonkunst und mitreißende Unterhaltung zugleich.
Acht Musikgruppen aus verschiedenen Himmelsrichtungen bringen fremde und vertraute Klangwelten zusammen, von archaisch anmutenden Antilopenhörnern bis zu einer modernen Variante des Alphorns, vom Balafon bis zum Dudelsack. Es geht aber weniger um den geografischen Hintergrund der verschiedenen Musikstile, sondern um ihre Interaktion, nicht um ein Weltmusikspektakel, sondern um ein musikalisches Experiment.
Die zwei- bis 30köpfigen Musikgruppen ziehen auf unterschiedlichen Routen durch den Stadtteil. Sie verweilen oder entfernen sich, treffen wieder aufeinander und spielen fallweise zusammen, wie es sich spontan ergibt.
Wie klingen die Antilopenhörner und Schlagwerke der Tonga, wenn sie auf Blasmusik aus Österreich oder Zumari-Hörner aus Zanzibar treffen? Wie die Alphörner aus der Schweiz und wandernden Balafone aus Westafrika, wenn sie den Meistertrommlern vom Fuße des Himalaja begegnen? Wie klingt das Echo der Wohnsiedlung, der Werkshallen oder der Festungsmauern?
Das Publikum der PARADE findet sich - barrierefrei - in neuen Rollen wieder: überrascht, eingekreist, einbezogen. Im Wechselspiel von Annäherung und Distanz wird der Stadtraum musikalisch neu verhandelt. PARADE öffnet die Ohren und erweitert den Horizont der Stadt.

PARADE will make the cityscape resound with music. Music on the move from various directions mixes up Linz suburbia and enhances it with new senses. The encounters of different soundworlds and resonances in public space provide for a very special listening experience. PARADE is an artistic sound experiment and at the same time exciting entertainment .
Eight musical groups from different parts of the world will cook up a fascinating blend of strange and familiar environments - from archaic-sounding antelope horns to a modern version of the alphorn, from the balaphone to the bagpipe. But it is less a matter of the geographical origin of the various musical styles but rather about their interaction. It won’t be a world music spectacle but rather a musical experiment.
The groups - ranging in size from duos to bands of 30 - will be parading along a variety of routes through the. They will be hanging out for a while or passing through on the fly, meeting up with one another and doing a bit of spontaneous jamming - whatever the situation calls for.
What will the antelope horns and percussion instruments of the Tonga sound like when they encounter Austrian brass music or the Zumari horns from Zanzibar? How will the alphorns from Switzerland and the moving balaphones from West Africa respond to the master drums from the foothills of the Himalayas? How does the echo sound from a residential area, a machinery hall or from the battlements on Pöstlingberg?
In this barrier-free environment, the PARADE audience will find itself in new roles: taken by surprise, encircled, involved. Within the interplay of convergence and distance, public space will be renegotiated. PARADE opens the ears and widens the horizons of the city.

I like the concept note but I would also like to know some of the main questions that were asked and what answers the panel gave.
Hi Keith, there was a question if the musicians of Parade have been in Austria already. So I explained that some members of Simonga took part in the expedition across “Totes Gebirge” in 1997, but for most of the joint Simonga-Maliko ensemble - and for most of the other groups - it will be the first tour to Austria.
Another question was how the audience will be participating at the Parade. We explained that - contrary to the usual set up of stage and audience - Parade offers to write one’s own acoustic narrative depending on the perspective or route or location chosen.
